The guest and his accompanying delegation then made a tour round IMCTC premise and were briefed on the latest developments related to terrorist groups and events around the world, and on the monitoring and follow-up mechanisms the IMCTC adopts in this regard.

H.E. Iraqi Military Intelligence Director commended the efforts the IMCTC is making in the various counterterrorism domains, praising the strategic methodology used by the Coalition in undertaking the counter mechanisms against extremist groups in line with the domains in which it operates.

For his part, IMCTC Secretary-General, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, indicated that IMCTC represents an integrated system that seeks to enhance cooperation among member states and stands on the values of legitimacy, autonomy, coordination and participation, striving to ensure that all IMCTC countries’ counterterrorism actions and efforts are compliant with international regulations, customs, and laws. Maj. Gen. Al-Maghedi went on to say that terrorism is a scourge that all countries and organizations must unite to eradicate by all means and methods. He also explained that the methods of dealing with terrorist groups are constantly changing with the advancement of modern means. The ideological confrontation ranks as the first pillar in counterterrorism, followed by fighting their communication hideouts and malicious messages, and by eradicating whatever might cater to their financing to help them implement their criminal plans, enroute to their military defeat.

Maj. Gen. Al-Maghedi also stressed that the Republic of Iraq has long suffered from the calamities of terrorism and extremist groups and praised its continuous efforts and ceaseless war against whoever strives to undermine the security and stability of Iraq. He wished that Iraqi government could join IMCTC to work side by side with the member countries to deter this abhorrent scourge that would foment or undertake discord and violent extremism, and to exchange international experiences in this regard, emphasizing that the Iraqi Republic plays a pivotal role in counterterrorism and counter-violent extremism in the region.
