ISLAMIC MILITARY COUNTER TERRORISM COALITION (IMCTC) VIRTUALLY HOLDS A SYMPOSIUM ON SUPPORTING VICTIMS OF TERRORISM

In commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism, IMCTC virtually held its 8th monthly symposium titled “Global Practices and Experiences on Supporting Victims of Terrorism” on Thursday, 20th August 2020. The symposium was held by video conference in the grand auditorium at the IMCTC Center. Both Dr. Charles Swanson, Professor of Security and Military Sciences at University of Leicester, England and Dr. Mona Al achkar Jabbour, Professor at Faculty of Law, Lebanese University, the Lebanese Republic, participated in the symposium which was chaired by Dr. Hadi bin Ali Alyami, Member of the Shura Council at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of the Human Rights and Regulatory Bodies Committee at the Council. The symposium was attended by IMCTC Secretary-General Maj. Gen., Mohammed Al-Moghedi, and Member Countries’ Delegates to IMCTC and IMCTC personnel. 

Dr. Swanson spoke about the global practices and experiences in rehabilitating and integrating victims and survivors of terrorism within the framework of social responsibility. He, furthermore, underlined the necessity of promoting partnership among governments, civil society institutions and charity sector.  Dr. Jabbour emphasized, in turn, promoting the global practices and experiences on supporting victims and survivors of terrorism in criminal justice.  

At the conclusion of the symposium, Maj. Gen. Al-Moghedi pointed out that this symposium comes as a part of many lectures, workshops and symposia held by IMCTC for Member Countries’ Delegates and IMCTC personnel as IMCTC seeks to make coordinated efforts to limit extremist ideologies and fight terrorism. He also thanked all the participants in the symposium for the valuable information they have presented.

It is noteworthy that IMCTC is an alliance of 41 countries that work together to coordinate and multiply their individual efforts in the global fight against violent extremism and terrorism and to effectively join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
