The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), His Excellency Dr. Youssef bin Ahmed Al-Uthaymeen, delivered a presentation on OIC efforts in countering terrorism on Thursday, 9th January 2020, on the margins of singing a memorandum of joint cooperation between the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) and OIC. HE Dr. Al-Uthaymeen assured through the presentation that the Islamic world have witnessed an unprecedented surge of terrorism and extremism for more than 30 years, which consequently destroyed foundations of stability and security in many societies. He pointed out the importance of addressing all political, economic and cultural causes of terrorism. Moreover, he said that obliterating terrorism from our world requires plans and programs that include political and economic reform as well as social and cultural development.

HE Dr. Al-Uthaymeen highlighted that OIC pays attention to continuous efforts with local and international organizations and centers on countering terrorism and violent extremism. He referred to many programs and initiatives which were launched by OIC, such as the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFA) and Sawt Al-Hikma (Voice of Wisdom Center). OIC considers Sawt Al-Hikma as its ideological arm in its fight against terrorism using social media. It works within the strategy of developing an innovative content which mainly focuses on disseminating an up-to-date content that interacts with daily events related to terrorism.

IMCTC Secretary-General, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, indicated that the presentation comes as a part of several presentations, workshops, and seminars held by the IMCTC for Member Countries Delegates and IMCTC staff members. Furthermore, he showed his gratitude towards the existing coordination with OIC which aims to make efforts to limit extremist ideas and counter-terrorism.

It is noteworthy that the IMCTC is a Pan-Islamic coalition of 41 countries that have come together to coordinate and multiply their individual efforts in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism and to effectively join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
