SECRETARY-GENERAL OF ISLAMIC MILITARY COUNTER TERRORISM COALITION AND AMBASSADOR OF THE REPUBLIC OF MALDIVES TO KSA DISCUSS COUNTER-TERRORISM ISSUES

His Excellency the Acting Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, received His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Khaleel, ambassador of the Republic of Maldives to KSA, and his delegation at the IMCTC Headquarters in Riyadh. Both parties discussed avenues to initiate the active involvement and participation of the Republic of Maldives in the work of IMCTC in order to achieve sought objectives to fight terrorism. 


The IMCTC counter-terrorism efforts and its role in coordinating and multiplying Member Countries efforts were explained in detail to H.E. Mr. Khaleel during the meeting. Both parties discussed security issues of common interest between the Republic of Maldives and IMCTC. Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of continuing joint collaboration and exchange of expertise that support efforts in fighting violent extremism and terrorism.  


H.E. Major General Al-Moghedi emphasized the importance of expected efforts from the Republic of Maldives as a Member Country that has experience and expertise in countering violent extremism and terrorism across the IMCTC's four domains of action. 


Of great note, the Republic of Maldives has established a national center to counter terrorism which has launched a national strategy to prevent and counter violent extremism and terrorism. The government has also implemented national campaigns which target schools, Friday sermons and public forums. These campaigns aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of religious extremism and to promote moderation. 


H.E. Mr. Khaleel confirmed his country's ongoing support to the IMCTC work and willingness to share its experience and expertise with other Member Countries to eradicate terrorism. 


IMCTC is a Pan-Islamic coalition of forty-one countries that have come together to coordinate and multiply their individual efforts in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism and to effectively join other international security and peacekeeping efforts.
